WHAT CLASS GRATE OR LID DO I REQUIRE?
Following on from the question “do I require a grate or lid?” is the question “which grate/lid load rating should I choose?”
Put simply, you must choose the right load rating according to Australian standard AS3996-2019. The revised and up-to-date standards can be read online from the Australian Parliament House website or ordered in hardcopy form from Standards Australia.
The class of your grate or lid is often dependent on the location in which it will be installed, and it is your responsibility to work closely with your project designer to choose the correct type and class. Interior and exterior forces must also be considered, such as whether cars are driving over the top, foot traffic, the nature of the materials the grate or lid is intended to cover or protect, and any other factors relevant to your site.
