Concrete Infill Covers

Concrete Infill Covers

Civilcast Ductile Iron Concrete Infill Covers, part of Civilcast's Cast Iron Covers range, are gas-tight access covers that are infilled with concrete on site after being placed in their frame, so the finished cover blends with the surrounding pavement or floor rather than standing out. The concrete infill adds weight, keeping the cover securely in place, and contributes to its load-bearing capacity, rated to Class B and Class D, for use across pedestrian areas, driveways and heavy traffic zones. They are predominantly used in stormwater, sewer and electrical infrastructure, available in a range of sizes from covering 1200mm manholes down to smaller trench grates and pits, and compatible with different frame types for a snug fit on municipal, commercial or residential projects.

Features

Concrete Infill Covers are built around a ductile iron frame that’s filled with concrete on site, giving a gas-tight seal and a finish that blends into the surrounding pavement rather than standing out. Class B and Class D load ratings, plus compatibility with a range of frame types, cover both pedestrian and heavy traffic applications — see sourcing a heavy duty access cover for how to specify the right one.

Benefits

The concrete infill does double duty: it gives a pavement-matching finish that keeps the cover from standing out in a finished streetscape, and adds weight that reduces the risk of the cover being dislodged by passing traffic. Gas-tight construction adds a third layer of value at sewer and stormwater access points, where odour or gas escape is a genuine concern.

  • A pavement-matching finish avoids an obvious utility cover disrupting a finished streetscape or driveway
  • Added weight from the infill reduces the risk of the cover being dislodged by passing traffic compared with a lighter cover
  • Gas-tight construction reduces the risk of odour or gas escaping at sewer and stormwater access points

Applications

Concrete Infill Covers are sized to suit manholes, trenches and pits up to 1200mm, predominantly across stormwater, sewer and electrical infrastructure. Their load rating and pavement-matching finish make them equally suited to pedestrian areas, driveways and heavy traffic zones — see choosing a grate or lid class — on municipal, commercial or residential projects where the cover needs to disappear into the surrounding surface.

FAQ's

Yes. This matters most on sewer access points, where gas-tight sealing helps prevent odour escaping at ground level.
